Service Description: This map displays the top 50% of scores from a composite picture of designated heritage resources, important farmlands, wildlife habitat, and forests across the Chesapeake Bay watershed. This dataset illustrates the relative concentrations of important hotspots and landscapes for long-term conservation and preservation. This information may be useful in planning and supporting various collaborative efforts throughout the region.
All four data layers used for the composite were normalized with scores ranging from 1 to 10. These data layers were subsequently stacked, with high overlap areas resulting in higher values versus lower overlap areas with lower values. The sum of all the data layers resulted in a hotspot landscape, with only the top 50% of scores visualized with a color stretch where the highest values are a darker shade of orange.
